Is a village of housekeeping cottages nestled on the shore of Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine. Here is a beautiful, crystal clear lake, 40 miles long and 20 miles wide, with many large and small islands, sheltered inlets and coves.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Stay in one of eight housekeeping cottages and enjoy our quaint little village and surrounding wilderness in comfort. Each cottage has two bedrooms with firm, comfortable beds, a bathroom with shower and hot water heater.
Kitchen and living room are equipped with electric refrigerator, gas stove with oven, TV, thermostat controlled floor furnace, and a screened-in porch. We also provide all eating and cooking utensils as well as linens and towels.
ROCKWOOD COTTAGES
Our summer guests at Rockwood Cottages can just enjoy the unique peace and solitude of the north woods or join in the many recreational activities available in the area. We have nearby golf courses, tennis courts, woodland tours of lumber operations, float plane rides, white water rafting trips on the Kennebec and Penobscot rivers, boating, swimming, bicycling and fishing.
The surrounding wilderness area has hundreds of miles of wood roads and trails offering visitors a chance to get back into the woods and providing Fishermen access to the many ponds, streams and rivers.
Camera enthusiasts and adventurers can explore the surrounding woods and thrill at the sight of their first moose, deer, bear, partridge and beaver or enjoy picking abundant wild strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Hikers can take leisurely walk down a quiet wooded trail or a challenging climb up big Squaw, White Cap, Big Spencer or Mt. Kineo. Mt. Kineo is located directly opposite our docks!
DOCKING AREA
Our dock facilities are for exclusive use by our guests where can purchase gas and oil. Boat and motor rentals are available. Enjoy swimming off the docks, our barbecue and picnic area overlooking the docks, a sauna at dockside, or lawn sports on our back lawn.
OPENED MAY 1st - NOVEMBER 30th.
FISHING
The Moosehead Lake Region is a fisherman's paradise with over 74,890 acres of cool, clear water in one lake plus several famous rivers and many lakes, ponds, streams and brooks in the immediate area.
These waters are abundant with landlocked Salmon, Brook Trout and Togue (lake trout). The Moose River empties into Moosehead Lake directly in front of our cottages which means that one of the best fishing spots on the lake is just off our docks, especially in the spring when the Smelt spawn.
Remember, you can troll up Moose River on windy days or venture a little further up the river to cast for Salmon or Trout in waters claimed to be some of the best in the East by veteran fly fishermen.
HUNTING
We are located in the heart of a wildlife region considered to be one of the best hunting grounds in the East. Large tracts of uninhabited forests with hardwood ridges and small cedar and fir swamps provide excellent cover for game while abandoned logging roads give hunters access to this back country.
For big game, the whitetail deer stands supreme with many reaching world trophy class. Deer archery season is in the month of October, deer firearms in November, black bear season September through November and partridge hunting is also in October. Partridge, king of Maine game birds, can be found in abundance along our abandoned logging roads.
