Located on the shores of Moosehead Lake, in an 11,000-acre wilderness preserve, The Birches Resort serves as the primary base for Wilderness Expeditions. The Birches was built in 1935 and has been run the Willard family since 1970. The Birches Resort and Wilderness Expeditions offers the most diverse experience possible in the State of Maine. We offer the services of a 4 - Season Family Resort and Sporting Camp combined with Wilderness Expeditions' 20 years of whitewater rafting and outfitting expertise. In addition to the Birches Resort, we operate base facilities at each of the rivers that we run. These bases provide a wide range of accommodations, activities and services.
Here at Wilderness Expeditions and The Birches Resort our guides and staff are composed from a variety of backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common -- we enjoy a lifestyle possible only in the great outdoors. Living and working as close to the earth as we do gives us an appreciation for nature and a peace of mind we always share with our guests.

FINE DINING
Delight in quality fare with an evening at the Birches Lakeside Dining Room. Full course meals are the specialty, including Prime Rib, Seafood, Chicken, and Vegetarian dishes. Meals are served by the enchanting ambiance of a 35-ton fieldstone fireplace and clear vistas of Moosehead Lake, Mt. Kineo and Farm Island. Choose beverages from our extensive wine list and full bar. Homemade desserts or a brownie sundae are the perfect way to end your meal. Early risers will enjoy farm fresh breakfasts, also served in the Dining Room. Later in the day, lunch is prepared at The Birches Grille. Dine on the porch, on the dock, or in the lounge next to the fireplace. Please call ahead for dining hours.
Marina
Please take advantage of our spacious, full-service marina! Moor you own boat or sample one of our many rentals including: 14 foot aluminum boats with 15 horsepower outboards, canoes, kayaks, windsurfers, sailboats, mountain bikes and the exciting "Air Chair" ( we are an authorized dealer with lessons available). Fuel is also available for sale.
Moose Cruises
Welcome aboard our family "Moose Cruise". See striking fall foliage and observe wildlife such as moose, deer, bear, eagles, osprey and falcons on this 2 hour voyage. Don't forget your camera!
